A month ago, I published my first blog post and promised myself this was the beginning of something new.

I was excited to finally have a place to share my experiences, document life’s adventures, and connect with people who might relate to the ups and downs of building a life, career, and business.

Then life had other plans.

Right after my promotion, I still had 3 weeks of vacations to cover for the guys at work before starting my new training. No big deal, I was aware of this responsibility in advanced. However, right when I finished covering these vacations – one of the guys quit.

Fantastic.

My heart sank hearing I’d have to cover this route until we hired a replacement.

This process of my company finding a new hire has now taken over 4 weeks. It’s felt like there’s been no end in sight.

It’s funny how quickly time gets away from us.

One minute you’re making plans and setting goals. The next you’re looking at the calendar wondering how four weeks have disappeared.

I finally got my promotion I’ve worked so hard for, then this 4 week set back has been very disheartening. So much so, I set aside everything in my personal life that I was excited to build and grow.

Finally, there is some light at the end of this long tunnel. I begin training the next new employee tomorrow, and I’m looking forward to making her the best she can possibly be.

It’s only two weeks of training, but it feels like the beginning of a much larger transition.

These four weeks have passed in the blink of an eye.

If I’m being honest, part of me feels like I failed myself a little.

I set aside this blog, major work on Rosewood & Sage, and other ideas I was excited to build and grow. Looking back, it’s easy to feel like I wasted four weeks. As someone who thrives on goal setting and checking boxes off a to-do list, not making progress on the things that matter to me felt frustrating.

If I don’t check off everything on my to-do list, I feel like I’ve failed. And for the last four weeks, I didn’t even have a to-do list of my own. Every day was spent reacting to what needed to be done at work rather than intentionally working toward the things I wanted to do in my personal life.

But the reality is that I wasn’t sitting around doing nothing. I’ve been running on autopilot and doing what needed to be done day after day at work. Covering a route, handling the unexpected, and trying to keep everything moving forward.

Sometimes life doesn’t give us the space to focus on the things we want to do because we’re busy taking care of the things we have to do.

Maybe that’s why I’m writing this tonight.

Not because I finally found extra time, but because I realized there may never be a perfect time.

Life will always be busy. There will always be another “fire to put out”, another responsibility, another task waiting to be completed. If I keep waiting for everything to slow down, I’ll probably never write another post, or get any of my goals accomplished.

So here’s to showing up anyway.

To continuing to set goals.

To continue creating, and checking off tasks on my daily to-do list.

To keeping work at work when the day is done.

Most importantly, to new beginnings.

And hopefully, to not letting another month pass before I write again.

Until next time,
Brittany
